Here’s a story from the Daily Wire , Ben Shapiro’s website.
Earlier this month Stephen King tweeted a fact that apparently didn’t go over well with conservatives on twitter.
In response to the conservative outcry over the death of college student Mollie Tibbetts at the hands of an undocumented immigrant , King tweeted :
“This is textbook whataboutism ,” Shapiro writes. “Why in the world should we ignore crime by illegal immigrants because a white man killed 58 people in Vegas?”
Shapiro couldn’t be more wrong. King was merely stating a fact by pointing out the hypocrisy of conservatives in their selective outrage. No one has ever suggested that anyone should ignore crimes by illegal immigrants or otherwise. The whole point of King’s tweet , which was obviously lost on conservatives like Shapiro ( who the right reveres as an intellectual ) was that a white American male murdered 58 people , and there was no outcry from the right as there was with the death of Mollie Tibbetts , and there certainly was no attempt to generalize all white Americans just because the majority of them have been mass shooters. The right wants to prevent illegal immigration , but they would rather ignore gun violence by shrugging it off with , ‘Well , these things happen. What can you do?’
In the death of Mollie Tibbetts , how quickly conservatives scream for justice , but when 58 Americans are murdered by a white male shooter , there are no cries for justice , no calls for change. Instead we get the usual song and dance : gun control doesn’t work ; a good guy with a gun will always stop a bad guy with a gun ; it wouldn’t have happened without gun free zones ; and their two favorites , smear the victims , and thoughts and prayers.
